I know you’ve done it. Not just once, but several times. You’ve settled down next to your little ones and saddled up to the cozy classic of peanut butter & jelly. Yum, delish, but sometimes this makes you feel like you could do better. And, you can! Elevate your next PB&J to party happening status and enjoy it with a perfectly paired wine.

Believe it or not, this took some trial and error to find “the” wine that suited this classic. PB&J is sweet like dessert, but also has a punch of earthy savors. The vote is in and the winner is Vouvray!

Try it! PB&J with a splash of Vouvray is a little miracle in the mouth! The sweetness of the wine matches the sweetness of the PB&J. This wine is loaded with acidity, which helps “cut through” the thickness of the PB&J spread. To boot, the aromatics and the flavor characteristics of the tropical fruits, golden pears, and yellow apples go so nicely with the jellies/jams you will use (from strawberry to grape). It’s all so addictive. Try it, try it, I implore you!

What is Vouvray? You may never have even given it a second glance at your wine store because they probably only carry one or two labels. Let me in on a little secret – Vouvray is a sweet little rock star that does costume changes from a dry wine, to an off-dry wine, and a sweet wine with style. Most are medium-bodied, medium sweet (“demi-sec”), high in acid, unoaked, and packed with tropical notes of melons, pineapples, pears, yellow apples, and honey. Vouvray itself is a town in France in the chateau-dotted Loire region. Vouvray wine is made from the Chenin Blanc grape.

Try the Domaine de Vaufuget 2013 at around $14 a bottle or see what your local wine store carries. You don’t need to spend big bucks to get a decent Vouvray.

Fabulous idea! Will definitely use when my LO starts eating these. Easy way for us both to enjoy and step up my lunch to make it adult, and learn about a new wine. Never had a Vouvray before, but it is now on my shopping list!! 🙂

I remember the first time I had a glass of Vouvray! Of course, back when, a French friend had to be the one to introduce me to it. But, I have never forgotten its taste and am so glad that you are introducing it to an ever growing audience stateside.
