Though sometimes you’d love to slip away with friends or the certain special someone you can’t because of the little ones you brought into this world. And most of the time, that’s all right. You wanted a family and a family takes time. Much more of it than you ever imagined! Luckily, there are venues where youngsters and adults feel like they’re having age appropriate fun.

There are farms that also conveniently have vineyards and loads of entertainment for all ages on a fine fall weekend. In the NY area there are several options east and North of the City, but today we’ll explore Warwick, NY, which is about 50 miles away.

Applewood Orchard & Winery is a great falls spot. They have many varieties of apples, a pumpkin patch, puppet shows, wagon rides, face painting and visits to see chicks and bunnies. There is also a country store and live music. Only open in September and October. Applewood Orchards Website (click here). Phone:  (845) 986 -1684. Address: 82 Four Corners Rd.

Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery is open as a winery throughout the year. During September and October they also have pick-your-own apples & pears, pre-picked produce, tractor rides and an apple-tasting bar. It’s a magical mix of music, food & wine destined to bring cheer to your group. During the weekends there is free music and five times a year they host weekend long music festivals: The Bob Dyan Tribute Festival, The Watkins Glen (Allmans Brothers) Tribute, The Blues & Wine / Black Sunday (a Johnny Cash tribute). So neat! They also have an onsite café & grill offering lunch. The tastings span their wines, ciders, brandies, and liqueurs. Warwick Winery Website (click here). Phone: (845) 258-4858. Address: 114 Little York Road

These farms rescue me from the doldrums of an indoor play space, are great outdoor experiences for children and have turned out to be some of our best photo ops. Simply good times!
