For the past five years, I have been lucky enough to spend time escaping to the Hamptons, made up of both the North Fork and the South Fork. Where we stay is located at the beginning of the South Fork, which permits us to easily explore both Forks, each worthy of a day trip. This blog post explores a day trip on the North Fork of Long Island and includes information about my favorite wineries, great places to grab a bite to eat as well as farm stands that are a North Fork must.

NORTH FORK WINERIES

Click here to read a guest blog I wrote for Grape Experiences about North Fork wines and wineries I love.  As a fellow wine lover, you will enjoy not only my article, but many others on this site!

GOOD EATS

The North Fork Table & Inn (57225 Rte. 25, Southold, NY) – this restaurant offers an upscale dining experience that includes a Chef’s Tasting Menu. Call for reservations and the hours of the restaurant, as they are not open daily. They also serve lunch/brunch on the weekend. There is also a very well-known food truck run by the inn that has very high quality food if you are looking for something more casual.

Love Lane Kitchen (240 Love Lane, Mattituck, NY) – this casual and delicious café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This café is a hidden gem and is situated on a picturesque road. Offers New American cuisine and cooking classes.

The Crazy Fork (10560 Main Rd., Mattituck, NY) – this casual restaurant was opened in 2012 and offers a variety of foods from shrimp tacos and lobster mac & cheese to fried seafood baskets and pizzas. They also serve brunch on Sundays.

Ammirati’s of Love Lane (135 Love Lane, Mattituck, NY) – this is a great “to-go” place that you can pick up a great lobster roll to take with you on your journey or sit outside and eat. They are open early starting at 6am and close in the late afternoon. They offer a varied breakfast menu and salads/sandwiches for lunch.

NOT TO MISS FARMSTANDS & PICK-YOUR-OWN

Briermere Farms (4414 Sound Ave., Riverhead, NY) – this farm stand is a cult classic and the perfect way to end your day out on the North Fork. Briermere has delicious fresh-baked pies (oh, the coconut cream!), cookies and more. You will not be disappointed.

Harbes Family Farm & Vineyard (715 Sound Avenue, Mattituck, NY) – you don’t have to have kids in tow to enjoy this spunky farm stand. From the fresh roasted corn, cider donuts, and sangria hut to the corn maze, you, too, can get lost in childlike fun.

Patty’s Berries & Bunches (410 Sound Ave, Mattituck, NY) – the blueberries last through August, but check their website for their other seasonal berry offerings.

Lewin Farms (812 Sound Ave., Calverton, NY) – offers pick your-own fruit & vegetables. We go there specifically for their peaches in August and the apples in September/October. They also have a farm stand if you want to stock up and skip the pick-your-own experience.

Swirl, sip, sigh.
