Now that you know it’s “the temps for Cabernet Franc,” here are a 6 Cabernet Franc wines to try. If your local wine store does not carry one of these, ask them what they do have from the Loire Valley, Long Island, Napa Valley, the Finger Lakes, and the Niagra Peninsula of Ontario.

Loire Valley Suggestions:

2009 Olga Raffault Chinon “Les Picasses,” $26 a bottle. Note: We tasted this Chinon wine at wine school a few weeks ago and it was a very easy, drinkable wine that would be just lovely with food. Well-structured.

2012 Domaine des Roches Neuves “Cuvée Terres Chaudes,$30 a bottle. Note: from Saumur-Champigny this wine has full of ripe fruit that borders on stewed and is full of lovely spice. Gourmand’s paradise.

Long Island Suggestions:

2013 Paumonak Cabernet Franc, $30 a bottle. Note: filled with black fruits, plums, fall leaves, and spice. Blended with merlot, making it a supple wine.

2013 Bedell Cellars Cabernet Franc, $45 a bottle. Note: filled with red fruits, violets, silky tannins, high acidity.

Napa Valley Suggestion:

2012 Lang & Reed North Coast Cabernet Franc, $20 a bottle. Note: the aromas display deep wild berry, stone fruit and dried herb aroma. The palate provides a more intense counter to the bright aromas with very deep penetrating fruit flavors wrap in soft silky tannins.

Finger Lakes Suggestion:

2012 Brooklyn Winery Cabernet Franc, $27 a bottle. Note: Quite fragrant and dominated by notes of black fruits such as blackberry, bramble, plum as well as smells of leather.
